Editorial Policy

Why this policy exists
BluLoans publishes content about money — a category where a wrong number or a glossed-over risk can cost a real business real dollars. This policy explains how our content gets made, how errors get fixed, and who stands behind what we publish. It applies to every page on the site: guides, product pages like business loans, comparison pages, calculator explainers, and industry pages.
If you ever find our practice falling short of this policy, tell us: hello@bluloans.com.
Part 1: Review methodology — how content is researched
Primary sources first
Our research standard is simple: government and regulatory sources outrank everything else. When we explain how a program, rule, or tax treatment works, we work from primary sources, including:
- U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) — sba.gov — for SBA loan programs, eligibility frameworks, and small-business guidance
- Internal Revenue Service (IRS) — irs.gov — for tax treatment of financing, EINs, and business structures
- Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) — consumerfinance.gov — for lending regulation and complaint data
- Federal Trade Commission (FTC) — ftc.gov — for advertising, disclosure, and small-business protection rules
- Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) — fdic.gov — for banking-system context
- State agencies (secretaries of state, state financing regulators) for formation and state-level licensing topics
Secondary sources — industry publications, provider websites, trade groups — may inform context, but a factual claim that matters to a reader's decision must trace to a primary source or be marked as pending verification (see below).
The VERIFY-token workflow: unverified facts are visibly marked
We never fabricate rates, terms, approval statistics, program limits, or borrower stories. When a draft needs a current figure we have not yet confirmed against a primary source, the author inserts a visible token in this format:
{{VERIFY: description of the fact needed and the suggested primary source}}
These tokens are deliberately ugly and deliberately public. A page carrying a VERIFY token is telling you, on its face, that a specific fact is structural placeholder rather than confirmed data. Tokens are resolved by checking the named primary source, recording the verification date, and only then replacing the token with the figure. We consider it better to show you the seam than to guess and look finished.
Update cadence and dateReviewed
Every page carries a dateReviewed date. That date means a human looked at the whole page on that day and either confirmed it or fixed it. Our cadence targets:
- Pages with figures tied to government programs (loan limits, fee schedules): re-reviewed when the underlying program changes, and at least every 6 months.
- Evergreen explainers (how a product works structurally): re-reviewed at least every 12 months.
- Trust and policy pages (like this one): re-reviewed whenever practice changes, and at least every 12 months.
Cited sources carry their own verifiedDate in page metadata where applicable. If a page's dateReviewed looks stale to you, treat that as useful information — and feel free to nudge us by email.
Part 2: Corrections policy
How to report an error
Email hello@bluloans.com with the subject line "Correction" (or use the corrections route on our Contact page). Include the page URL, the statement you believe is wrong, and — if you have it — a source. You do not need to be right to write in; we would rather investigate ten near-misses than miss one real error.
How fast corrections publish
- Material errors — anything that could change a reader's financial decision, such as a wrong cost figure, a wrong eligibility statement, or a mischaracterized risk — are our top editorial priority. We investigate immediately upon triage and target publishing a fix within 2 business days of confirming the error, faster where possible.
- Minor errors — typos, broken links, formatting — are fixed in the normal course of updates, typically within a week.
How corrections are noted on-page
For material corrections, we do not silently rewrite history. The corrected page gets an updated dateReviewed, and a note on the page stating what was wrong and when it was fixed. Minor fixes (typos, link repairs) update the page without a correction note, since flagging every comma would bury the notes that matter.
Part 3: Author standards
Every article carries an author and a financial reviewer
Every article on BluLoans is attributed to an author and passed through a financial review step before publication. The reviewer's job is adversarial: check the math, challenge the claims, and make sure disadvantages are explained as clearly as advantages — a requirement of this policy, not a stylistic preference.
Current placeholder status, disclosed honestly
As of this review date, our bylines — "BluLoans Editorial Team" and "BluLoans Financial Review Board" — are placeholder editorial identities, and they are flagged as placeholders in our systems and on author pages. They represent the editorial process described in this policy, not named individuals with published credentials. Real, named author and reviewer bios, with verifiable backgrounds, will replace these placeholders before we treat any byline as a credential. Until then, we ask you to trust the process and the sourcing you can check — not a name we have not yet earned the right to show you.
No misrepresentation of how content is produced
We use modern tools, including AI assistance, in drafting and research. We will not misrepresent machine-assisted content as the original work of a named human expert, and no content publishes without human editorial review under the standards above. What we stand behind is the published process: primary-source research, visible VERIFY tokens, review before publication, and fast corrections.
Conflicts of interest
- No author or reviewer may hold an undisclosed financial interest in a provider they cover.
- Providers do not review, edit, or approve editorial content before publication — ever.
- Compensation relationships are walled off from editorial judgment, as described in How We Make Money, and disclosed under our Advertising Disclosure.
- Ratings, when live, follow the fixed criteria in our Rating Methodology; no commercial consideration can change a score.
Anyone who becomes aware of a conflict — inside or outside the company — should report it to hello@bluloans.com.
{{LEGAL REVIEW}} Confirm the corrections timeline commitment (2 business days for material errors) is operationally supportable before launch, and review the AI-assistance disclosure language for consistency with any jurisdictional AI-disclosure requirements in effect at launch.
